Sales representatives visit OCULUS Wetzlar[07/13/2010]

Sales representatives visit OCULUS WetzlarFor one week, US Sales Representatives were welcomed to OCULUS in Wetzlar for an advanced training seminar. They learned the latest news and innovations concerning the Pentacam®, Pentacam® HR, Keratograph, Easygraph, C-Quant, Pachycam, PARK 1 and the appendant software. We consider it extremely important to keep our staff fully informed and perfectly trained. After six days in Germany the Sales Representatives returned home with the latest information and required knowledge to relay back to their customers in the US.

OCULUS @ ASCRS 2010[05/07/2010]

OCULUS @ ASCRS 2010ASCRS-Boston, April 2010: A sign that the economic crisis is on the mend, attendance at the annual meeting of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) increased from 6611 in 2009 to over 7225 in 2010. OCULUS Optikgerate GmbH and OCULUS, Inc. USA were proud to support and participate in the ASCRS meeting, held in the beautiful city of Boston.

The OCULUS Taskforce made its debut at this year's ASCRS. The OCULUS Taskforce was developed to show the wide range of products, as well as, the superb service and support to customers that OCULUS provides. The OCULUS Speakers Corner continued to be a popular destination as industry leading physicians provided knowledge and information about OCULUS devices. Booth talks will be available for viewing on www.Oculus.tv .
Newer products like the PARK 1 and ImageCam continued to generate great interest during the exhibition, while the introduction of two new software modules for the Keratograph, the TF-Scan (Tear Film) and OxiMap, showed promising applications for contact lens fitting. The Pentacam continued to show why it is still the Gold Standard in Anterior Segment Tomography.

Data communication as easy and efficient as never before[05/05/2010]

OCULUS Pentacam goes DICOM

Data communication as easy and efficient as never beforeOCULUS has implemented a DICOM interface for the Pentacam. DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) is a standard defining both a file format for storage of medical data and a communication protocol for information exchange in medical environment. The latest release of the Pentacam software allows screen captures to be stored to EMR (Electrical Medical Record) software.

Moreover with an additional software for the OCULUS patient data management system, the Pentacam is fully integrated into the DICOM environments. The patient data management system receives the information about patients and examinations using DICOM Modality Work List from the Hospital Information System (HIS) and forwards these to the Pentacam. The measured examination data is transmitted to the Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) as image files. All DICOM Viewing Stations having access to the PACS can retrieve the stored data for the respective patient.

Threshold Strategies: From staircase to elevator[03/01/2010]

Threshold Strategies: From staircase to elevatorCLIP (Continuous Light Increment Perimetry) follows a
radically different path. In contrast to the regular bracketing methods, CLIP makes use of test points with luminance increased at a steady rate. As a result, test duration is drastically shortened. Also, reproducibility of the results is increased. In addition, convenient side effect, satisfaction level is kept high. This unique real threshold test that outperforms most interpolation based algorithms is now available in all OCULUS perimeters.

Enhancing Ectasia Screening[02/18/2010]

Corneal tomography and biomechanics measurement can increase screening accuracy.

Enhancing Ectasia ScreeningCareful preoperative screening is paramount for the success of refractive surgery. In the case of LASIK or
PRK, it is crucial to screen patients for corneal abnormalities that, if the patient were operated on, would increase the risk of postoperative corneal ectasia. For instance, patients with keratoconus or pellucid marginal degeneration are known to have poor postoperative outcomes that commonly progress to ectasia. However, some patients with recognized ectatic risk factors remain stable many years after LASIK. Conversely, many cases of ectasia have been reported after LASIK despite patients’ low risk scores on.

The BAD may be better for detecting ectatic disease and its susceptibility[02/18/2010]

The BAD may be better for detecting ectatic disease and its susceptibilityA NEW software adaptation to the Pentacam Scheimpflug Tomography (OCULUS) called the Belin/Ambrósio Enhanced Ectasia Display (BAD) has been demonstrated as more sensitive than standard techniques in the detection of keratoconus and subclinical ectasia in candidates for corneal refractive surgery, while also providing the “all-clear” in individuals who might otherwise have been unnecessarily deemed unsuitable for such procedures, said Renato Ambrósio MD PhD, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
